We strongly believe in spaying and neutering pets that are not of
verified breeding quality and are not planned to be bred.  The
health benefits are undeniable and many of the behavioral benefits
are definitely of great value.

** We participate with the NYS Ag & Markets Spay/Neuter
Certificate program as well as the Tompkins County SPCA Helen
Milks Francis program.

Spay
We perform a procedure called an ovariohysterectomy in which
both the ovaries and uterus are removed.

The risks of your pet developing mammary tumors are drastically
higher with each heat cycle that she experiences.  Another
important risk is that she may, and as she ages chances increase
that she will, develop an infection in her uterus called a pyometra.
This type of infection can be life-threatening and the spay
procedure at this point is very dangerous as well.  One behavioral
benefit of spaying is stopping your pet's heat cycles which can
cause a great deal of distress for all involved.

Neuter
Neutering can help with many behavioral issues and decrease
risks of prostate issues as well as certain types of cancer.
Neutering can also decrease chances of your pet becoming injured
because they feel the need to wander in search of a mate.
